And let's not forget one of the most important aspects: the huge amount of time and effort that is put in on actually defending your turf....
....no wait, my bad. I was thinking about a whole different game. |

....no wait, my bad. I was thinking about a whole different game. During sov warfare, yes. The defenders do have to put in a lot of effort. If only CCP would make it so that sov warfare was actually appealing, it'd happen more often.
Well, that's the problem. If you start talking about the appealing factor you will automatically get back on the very question why null is so dead, why people in high-sec tend to avoid it, blobs and yada yada yada with all kinds of resulting Baghdad Bob responses from the blob masters.

What I find stupid is that Eve is one of the few games where over 100 people can all work together in a real time battle, yet so much of the player base derides it as "blobs". Instead of asking about what nullsec players do, a better question is why are people playing one of the most massively multi-player games when they hate working with other people, and even hate other players for working together?
It's true that EVE is rather unique in that it can muster a lot of people together. But it doesn't mean that just because it is possible that it should automatically become the be all and end all solution. Which it more or less currently is. It is not as much about hating people who are working together but rather that you are forced to work with the same group - namely the biggest group - of people to generally get anywhere in null these days.
And of course, say what you want but the fact that a lot of null is rather empty and lots of people avoid null for these very reasons just to name a few still stands strong as ever.
